This paper aims at discussing why the issues of governance, performance, and international organization behavior are relevant in world politics. In 1944, the Rwandese Hutu government collaborated with the extremist allies and almost brought the Tutsi minority to an end. Approximately eight hundred thousand Tutsi were murdered. Some years later, Philip Gou revitch recounted the genocide story in The New Yorker. In the story, Philip claimed that the world governance had the ability to stop the genocide but nothing had been done. Consequently, this story aroused great interest in President Clinton. In response, he sent copies to Sandy Berger where he authorized more investigations. Clinton was amazed at how such a critical genocide could have happened. However, President Clinton showed his outrage and urgency at the wrong time since he had taken no action at the appropriate time to stop the genocide (Barnett and Martha 125). On the same note, President Clinton’s administration had taken no interest to arouse his attention. There were concerns regarding whether President Clinton did not possess information about the genocide as the marginalia pointed out (Kuperman 100). The United States is still engaging in the search for a detailed policy aimed at solving the grave communal conflicts. The comprehensive researches concern the mas s killings that occurred in Rwanda, Somalia, and Bosnia. Moreover, they are being carried out years after the killings took place. The key concern is that the nations participating in the researches may have been dormant during the occurrences. Why then are the nations showing concern when it is too late? There are two principles that apply for the Washington’s policymakers. First, the United States ground troops are never allowed to participate in humanitarian involvements when civil wars are taking place. Second, there are exclusions particularly where involvements can be implemented at low costs. It is worth noting that nations voice their intentions to fight against genocide in the political spectrums (Power para 4).Advertising Looking for essay on political culture? However, there is no consent yet about what the interventions of the US would entail. In the case of the Rwandese genocide in 1994, deploying approximately five thousand troops from the US could have prevented the mass killings. This was a claim made by the commanding general from the United Nations in Rwanda. Amazingly, the claim was supported by a wide array of global bodies. The violence and mass killings in Rwanda played a great role in contributing to insecurity in places such as Kigali (Power para 2). During instances of genocides, the governance, performance, and international organization behaviors are usually under test. It is during such a time that the leadership in countries is portrayed by how immediately countries respond to the genocide. Global media reports focus on the country facing the genocide. Global Warming in South Florida Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 1000 words

Global Warming in South Florida - Essay Example The corrosion or depletion of the ozone layer allows the infrared radiations into the earth in a large amount. The gas also absorbs much of these radiations and because they are atmospheric gases they warm the planet hence global warming. Land use in many parts of the world has resulted to these changes in the atmospheric temperatures. Deforestation has been ranked first as a major cause. Forest plays a very important role on the control of carbon dioxide gas in the air. In other terms, it is referred to as the greenhouse gas cycle. In this cycle, plants do take in oxygen during the day and releases it in the night (Aston). Cutting down of trees breaks this cycle, therefore, most of the gases released in the atmosphere remains there influencing the global warming. South Florida is one of the parts in the city which have not appreciated this fact and continue to destroy the forest so that they can develop settlement. Developed countries are the majority of the nations on earth which have been experiencing temperature variations due to global warming. This is because they are the ones which use much of the fossil fuels such as petroleum in their industries. Although Florida does not so many heavy industries which emit the greenhouse gases into the atmosphere, the effects of global warming are so much evident. For example, the smoke released from the cars does form heavy smog in the air when it mixes with fog. In United States of America, the southern region of State of Florida takes the lead on the consequences the increased global heat. This is because of its strategic location as it borders the Pacific Ocean. This is because oceans are very important measures of the effects of global warming. The effects global warming is so vivid in major parts of the world and it willed is discussed in relation to South Florida. Capstone Project - Assignment Example The proposed initiative dubbed ‘Arkansas’s Youth Gun Violence Initiative’ is a community based initiative that will involve solicitation of some ideas from the state agencies, learning institutions and non-profit organization regarding pilot programs that will reduce gun violence. The idea of the initiative is to implement a program that will promote a positive youth outcome. The proposed initiative will focus on establishing work relations among the institutions in Arkansas such as the health, school, leaders and non-profit organizations in order to identify all the drivers of youth gun violence. Identification of such drivers will aid in the establishment of relevant evidence based strategies that will focus on addressing each issue regarding the reasons why youths are involved in gun violence. The proposed initiative will involve working with all community partners that are involved with youth based institutions so as to engage the residents of Arkansas in the implementation of the initiative plan and ensure that the plan will be sustained through refraining the youth from any gun violence incidence. Gun violence in Arkansas as in many other states is highly concentrated on the young population. Thus the long-term goal for the proposed initiative is to reduce youth gun violence and increase collective efficacy in Arkansas State. The issue of youth gun violence in United States has passed extreme conditions and is now regarded as an epidemic. Between 1976 to around 1991 guns were used by an estimated 65% of the juvenile homicide offenders. Homicides resulting to gun violence have been the leading cause of death among many youths. Most male teenagers in all ethnic and racial groups are likely to die from gunshot wounds instead of natural causes. As a result of this the Department of Justice (DOJ) has over the years been involved with funding community based initiatives and policy programs to help curb the

Adversity Essay Example for Free

Adversity Essay I woke up at 11 am feeling refreshed. I hadn’t slept in since my family had started on our road trip to Canada. We were finally in Calgary and were leaving for home the next day-A good 22-hour drive. I got up quickly from my bed and jumped over my laptop charger. A disorienting head rush suddenly came upon me and I felt dizzy. I saw the stairs briefly and then it seemed like I was tumbling. When I could finally think again, I realized that my parents were in panic and I was surrounded by blood. Turned out, I fell right into some glass and as I would later find out, it had cut an important tendon in my shin. I was rushed to the ER and got surgery to fix my tendon. I asked the doctor to take some pictures of my leg right before I was sedated. After the surgery, a huge temporary cast was put on my leg and I was given crutches with which I could hobble around. Now came the 22-hours in a car with my injured leg. Luckily they weren’t as bad as I had thought they would be. Finally I was home. My friends visited me and were aghast at the size of my cast and the pictures of my leg! They thought I was just joking and wasn’t really injured. I had to spend 6 weeks in my cast. Six grueling weeks during which all I did was watch movies and tv shows on my laptop. My whole summer passed me by and I couldn’t do anything. My friends play basketball in the heat, thoroughly enjoying themselves while I watched them wistfully. Time went by slowly but finally I got my cast off only to find out that my tendon was too weak to walk on so I had to endure two weeks in a black boot. It was still summer and because my boot absorbed sunlight, my foot often smelled and had heat sores on it. I almost preferred my cast to this hell. Eventually my boot came off too. I could finally walk! I was sent to six weeks of physiotherapy where I found out that I probably wouldn’t be running or jumping for another 6 months almost. Well, at least I didn’t have to run miles for PE. I have only three more months now and I am optimistic. Since I can’t run, I started working on my biceps and now I can show them off. Soon I will be running as fast as the wind and touching the sky with my perfect two legs. That day cannot come fast enough.

Lord Of The Flies, Human Nature :: essays research papers

Human Nature   Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  William Golding wrote two famous works, Lord of the Flies, and â€Å"Why Boys Become Vicious†. He was awarded the Pullet Surprise for Lord of the flies. They also made this book into two different movies. William Golding’s view of human nature is mankind is naturally evil, everyone is born that way. The book Lord of the Flies is a story about a group of young boys stranded on a disserted island. They have power struggles, and eventually break up into two different groups, the savages, and the normal kids. In William Golding’s other writing, â€Å"Why Boys Become Vicious†, he describes an event that took place in England. Two ten-year-old boys kidnapped two-year-old James Bulger, and beat him to death for no apparent reason. There are many people who agree with his ontological view but I am not one of them. William Golding believed that human nature is evil; however, I believe only some people are evil.   Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  In the essay â€Å"Why Boys Become Vicious†, Golding proves what he wrote 40 years earlier about human nature. He tells about a real life example of humans at their worst. Two ten-year-old Liverpool boys have been charged with the death of two-year-old James Bulger. They kidnapped him from a shopping center with his mother not faraway. The two boys led him outside for a long walk until they came to a large group of boys, most around the age of 10. Then for no apparent reason they all started to beat little James. When they were through he was dead. Realizing what they had done, the boys moved his body to a rail road track, hoping a train would come so that no one could tell what they had done. The train didn’t come and the two boys were caught. In this essay Golding says â€Å"we are born with evil in us and cruelty is part of this† (â€Å"Why Boys Become Vicious†2). He thinks a likely cause of evil in boys is because of their parents. â€Å"If parents are absent, if fathers do not provide strength, and mothers do not provide love, then children will plumb the depths of their nature† (â€Å"Why Boys Become Vicious†3). William Golding proves his view by giving examples of horrible people like Hitler, Stalin, and Idi Amin.   Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  In the book Lord of the Flies, William Golding tells a story about human nature at its worst.

Big Brother Little Sister

Euthanasia is a type of assisted suicide (where one person helps another person to take their own life). There are a number of reasons why people choose Euthanasia; if they have a very serious debilitating illness, which stops them having a reasonable quality of life, if they are terminally ill with something which will cause a very slow and painful death, they may wish to end their lives peacefully, and in the manner of their own choosing. Recently the parents of a young man helped him to end his own life because he had been paralyzed from the neck down and he felt he could not face life anymore.Euthanasia is NOT the same as suicide, for it to be euthanasia the person who dies must have had a very poor quality of life, or be unable to live with dignity. Euthanasia is about ending the suffering of an individual who WILL NEVER GET BETTER. (Someone who is depressed for example may have a very poor quality of life and want to commit suicide, but depression is generally only a temporary, treatable condition). EUTHANASIA IS ILLEGAL in most countries, AS IS ANY FORM OF ASSISTED SUICIDE.In the Netherlands, where their attitude towards life and death is far more enlightened; they have ‘euthanasia clinics' where you can end your life with peace and dignity. The legality of euthanasia in the Netherlands is causing many individuals to travel their in order to take their own lives, in a calm and peaceful manner. Since their own countries deny them any right to do so. Since many people may suffer accidents which leave them in a coma, or paralyzed, perhaps unable to communicate, many people are now choosing to make ‘living wills'.These are similar to the legal documents used to divide up your property after you die, but a ‘living will' states what you want to be done if you are ever terminally ill, permanently suffering, but unable to communicate your wishes (or if doctors are unable to act on what you say because they think you may not be in your right min d). Euthanasia can be in many forms, by painless lethal injection, tablets, or just ‘pulling the plug' on a life support machine. Only ‘voluntary euthanasia' is euthanasia. There is arguably no such thing as ‘involuntary' euthanasia. Involuntary' euthanasia would almost always be regarded as murder (or at least manslaughter), even in countries where euthanasia is legal. Always consult somebody who knows the laws of your country well whenever the law is concerned. Don't make any sort of decision based on what a stranger on the internet has said. Don't trust wikipedia, unless you have the time to check all the sources and citations yourself. User generated content should never be taken as a matter-of-fact, especially on such a serious topic as this one. P/S: The thing about ‘euthanasia' being the name of the drug they use to put animals to sleep is nonsense.Similarly, there is no drug called ‘euthanasia' which is used to euthanize people, this is further nonsense. Also; killing an animal which is terminally ill or in great suffering may be considered ‘euthanasia' but killing an animal just to make room at the pound is DEFINITELY NOT EUTHANASIA. This is just a very cruel system which many animal rescue centers have little choice but to implement. Thanks. Hope this info is useful to you. This website (BBC) has some very good legal information and moral discussions on the topic. Good reading if you still want to know more.

The World Health Organization ( 2014 ) Defines Mental Health

Mental Health SYNOPSIS OF THE TOPIC The World Health Organisation (2014) defines Mental Health â€Å"as a state of well-being in which every individual realises his or her own potential, can cope with the normal stresses of life, can work productively and fruitfully, and is able to make a contribution to her or his community† (para. 1).
